Photos and documents

An item can carry the receipt, a photo of the warranty card, a scanned policy, a manual. These are attachments, and they are often worth more than the record itself: the record you can type again, the receipt you cannot.

What you can attach

Photos: JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP.

Documents: PDF, DOC and DOCX, XLS and XLSX, PPT and PPTX, TXT and CSV.

The list is the same on Android and on iPhone. Anything outside it is refused.

How an attachment gets in

Four ways: take a photo with the phone, pick from the gallery, pick from your files, or share into Owndom from another app, the way a receipt arrives by email.

There is no scanner. A photo of the receipt taken with the phone does the same job.

How large

The ceiling is 50 MB per file. A file above that is refused.

At 5 MB the app stops and asks, because from that size on attachments start to inflate the backup and take up room in your cloud. For a photo you get three ways out: shrink it yourself, let the app shrink it, or keep it as it is. For a document there is no shrinking, only the warning, and you either continue or step back.

The number of attachments per item is not limited on Premium. On the free version it is one attachment per item, a photo or a document. The 50 MB per file applies to both.

Where attachments live

Inside the app's own space on the phone, not in your gallery and not among your files. That is why other apps cannot see them, and why they do not clutter the gallery.

Delete an item and its attachments go with it. Remove Owndom and the attachments are deleted from the phone; after that they exist only in a backup, if there is one.

When the phone is gone

The backup your phone makes on its own need not carry the attachments. It is made under the system's rules, and those rules cap how much room one app may take inside it. Records are small and get through; photos and documents are large and in time stop making it in. Owndom warns you when that happens, but the decision is not its to make.

The backup to your own cloud, which comes with Premium, carries every attachment and has no such cap.

When you restore onto another device, the attachments come back with it. If some cannot, the app tells you how many were not restored, so you know what to look for on the old phone while you still have it.

How a backup is made and restored is in Using Owndom on more than one device. Who can see what is in Who can see your data.
